FACTS ON RAYEARTH
RAYEARTH OMAKE

Nothing human made is fool proof, even something made by nature itself isn't fool proof, hence MKR is also not fool proof. What I mean by that? Well, things like inconsistencies and weird things that happen within that never really go explained. These things were continuously discussed by fans, each giving their own view on the subject. Over the years, a number of interesting topics have popped up, here, you'll find some that I've managed to catch, hope you enjoy reading them ^^

  1. Where did Hikaru's second sweet go?
In the Anime when the Knights got to Presia's place, Presia told them she'll make weapons for them, but for a cost. Having no money, Hikaru reached in her pocket for anything of value, but could only find a sweet. She offered it to Presia, who told them what she really wanted them to get her the minerals for making the weapons. Anyway, Hikaru ended up giving her the candy anyway.

The question comes up when the Knights went back to Presia, she was killed in the battle with Atalante, one of Ascot's summon beasts. While Presia was about to loose it, she told Hikaru she really liked that sweet. Hikaru quickly told her she got another one of those and searched for it. However, Presia died before she could find it.

So the question is, where did her second sweet go? Some people pointed out in the Manga, Clef was fiddling with Hikaru's skirt (read Clef? Hentai??? for more information) when they first met, and that made the sweet fall out of her skirt. However, this only happens in the Manga, hence not making sense since the sweet business was from the Anime.

The answer to this riddle was Hikaru never lost it! The proof? At the end of the episode, they dug a grave for Presia, and Hikaru placed the second sweet in front of the grave ^_~

  2. Clef? Hentai???
In the beginning of the Manga when Clef first met the Knights, he told them he was going to grant them magic and armor to aid them in their quest. He then proceeded to "examine" their clothes, and started to fiddle with Hikaru's skirt. Umi immediately blasted off at Clef with "What are you doing??? Hentai!" while Clef countered with "Who's Hentai??" On the other hand, Hikaru didn't really get what was going on.

Clef then explained himself that he was simply examining their clothes so he could grant them the right armor. However, some people took this opportunity to label Clef as Hentai. This never really got anywhere, just thought you'd be interested to know ^^

  3. The Knights got robbed!
When Presia told the Knights she was going to make them weapons, but not for free, the Knights were troubled by the fact they had no money. There's a small problem with this statement. In the first episode when they were at Tokyo Tower, Hikaru was busy looking through the binoculars, enjoying herself. But the timer went off. While she was looking for more coins, Fuu stepped up and offered some coins to Hikaru, she placed them in Hikaru's hands. Hikaru then goes off saying she needs to thank Fuu.

Here's the catch, Hikaru never placed the coins in the binoculars, she was holding them all the time, even when they went to Cefiro! So she should still have the coins with her when they got to Presia. I know I'm really picky here and this hasn't really been brought up by fans, but it's interesting to see how you can find holes here and there.

So where did the money go? Perhaps Hikaru dropped it when they fell into Cefiro - meaning I don't know :P

Also, note that this only applies to the Anime. In the Manga, Fuu puts the coins directly in the binoculars for Hikaru.

  4. Are Lantis and Eagle... Gay?
A lot of people think this is true because of the way these two act around each other. They seem to care for each other a bit too much. To make matters worse, Eagle always goes off into a long trend of thoughts whenever Lantis is mentioned. In some dubbed versions (the Spanish one for example), Eagle was a woman ~_~

The answer is obvious - they are NOT gay. As far as their relationship goes, they are very good friends, period. It's what CLAMP does to guys, if you've seen CARD CAPTOR SAKURA, it's the same thing with Touya and Yukito. Besides, if they were really gay, then Lantis wouldn't fall in love with Hikaru. Besides, the members of CLAMP were originally Doujinshi artists, it's pretty natural for them to dump in this kind of stuff.

  5. What does "Rayearth" mean?
Not being a car name, what does "Rayearth" mean? Unless you read the Manga, you won't know this. At the very end of the Manga (season 2 volume 3), Clef mentions Hikaru explains in their world (i.e. Earth), "Rayearth" means the land of light. My guess this is a straight translation from English, since "Ray" means light and "Earth" means, well, earth :P

  6. Umm, so did Hikaru become Pillar in the end or what?
There's a lot of fan fics they says Hikaru or the three Knights became Pillar of Cefiro. What one must keep in mind is these are fan fics, they don't have to follow the story fully. In the series, Hikaru never became Pillar, she was, however, qualified to become Pillar (and so was Eagle). However, she did not wish to become Pillar since she knew the story of Princess Emeraude. Knowing that if you are Pillar, your wish will become true in Cefiro, Hikaru wished for the Pillar System to be abolished. Her words were something like, "the land should be protected not by just one person, but the people who lives there, the people who loves the land". And hence, the Pillar System was no more. This happens in both Anime and Manga. However, in the Manga, the Knights retained power to go back to Cefiro as they wish (which made sense because it was themselves who summoned themselves back to Cefiro at the beginning of season 2), while in the Anime this didn't seem to be the case.

  7. Hikaru and Nova kissed!!! Are they...
No, they're not lesbians. This was shown in the third opening, which was largely agreed to be the best openings of the lot. This was just something CLAMP did for the opening, doesn't have much meaning to it. The lyrics at that bit meant "while embracing the light and dark", which makes sense with the video since Hikaru could be a metaphor for light while Nova is dark. Besides, if Hikaru was a lesbian, she wouldn't have fallen in love with Lantis right?

  8. There IS a season 3 of MKR! I saw it on TV!
Throughout the years, rumors of this so called "MKR 3" has zipped through the Internet and a lot of people believe there is such a thing. However, upon checking CLAMP's homepage everytime something like that comes out, there is no mention of a "MKR 3". When it was mentioned once in the past by people in Mexico, I got into contact with them was able to gather:

    • MKR 1 - 2 TV series that covered episodes 1 to 49 (season 1 and 2)
    • MKR 2 - first 2 episodes of RAYEARTH OVA
    • MKR 3 - final episode of RAYEARTH OVA

However, this may not be accurate since it was many years ago and my contact didn't watch the whole of "MKR 2". He also only saw an advertisement of "MKR 3" on TV, not the actual "MKR 3". Until somebody can confirm this, these will remain as theories.

Thanks to wen for clearing all this up.

  9. I got the tapes from the American release of MKR, but how come I only see 2 different sets of openings? I thought there were supposed to be 3...
It seems that with the dubbed tapes, they used the third opening (Hikari to Kage wo Dakashimeta Mama) from the start of the second season. But for the subbed tapes, they used the second opening (Kirai ni Narenai), then switched to the third opening in sync with the Japanese version (they switched at episode 43). However, both dubbed and subbed versions of the VHS only had the second ending (Rarabai Yasahiku Dakasete). To see the third ending (Itsuka Kagayaku), you need to get the Season 2 DVDs.

Thanks to Ferrio_Jaice for the info.
